"Back to school" can be a tough time for many families in our community. For the 10,767 children in our region living below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, families may have to choose between groceries or school supplies. Nearly half of the students in our local schools qualify for Free and Reduced lunch programs, meaning that efforts such as Stuff the Bus not only make going back to school easier on the family, but ensures that students have all of the tools they need to be successful in the classroom.
Children need pens, pencils, folders, backpacks, and much, much more. United Way of Greater Augusta will once again partner with Wal-Mart, the area school systems, and Harrisonburg Media Group to "Stuff the Bus", and collect truckloads of back to school items for students in need. Last year we collected over $58,000 in supplies for children in the community, and our goal is to raise more than that this year. Join us August 5-7, 2016 at Wal-Mart and August 8 at the United Way office. To sign up as a volunteer, click here.
Please join us as we make a difference in the lives of local families and students.
