"Back to school" can be a tough time for many families in our community. For the 10,767 children in our region living below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, families may have to choose between groceries or school supplies. Nearly half of the students in our local schools qualify for Free and Reduced lunch programs, meaning that efforts such as Stuff the Bus not only make going back to school easier on the family, but ensures that students have all of the tools they need to be successful in the classroom.
Thank you to the volunteers, shoppers, and supporters who gave of themselves over the tax-free weekend. Because of your efforts, we generated over $58,000 worth of school supplies that will stay local to help children succeed in school.
Thanks also to Staunton City Schools, Waynesboro City Schools, Augusta County Schools, Harrisonburg Radio Group, SVOE, DuPont Community Credit Union, the Staunton and Waynesboro Walmarts,
